A TENNESSEAN TRIBUTE: Congrats to Mr. Andrew Pouncey on being selected as the 2014 Citizen of the Year by the Lions Club of Germantown. While this public credit is well deserved, it stands in stark contrast to the career of Mr. Pouncey who has constantly strived for the betterment of others without ever putting the focus on himself. Thanks for all you do for our community. #TNtribute
Today President Obama released his FY15 budget proposal. Once again Obama missed a crucial opportunity to show the American people that he’s serious about addressing our national debt. Instead, he’s opted for the status quo and doubled-down on taking the easy route. Rather than tackling our nation’s spending crisis head-on, he has chosen to raise taxes on hardworking American families by an additional $1.8 trillion so that Washington can spend even more of their hard-earned money.
This week the House took action to protect the political beliefs of the American public with the passage of H.R. 3865, the Stop Targeting of Political Beliefs by the IRS Act of 2014. This legislation is very similar to H.R. 3074, the IRS Abuse Protection Act, which I introduced last year to hold the IRS accountable for its corrupt actions and make sure they are never again used as a political weapon against any group, conservative or liberal.
SHOCKING COST OF GOV’T RED TAPE: A recent study found that government regulations cost American households $14,678 last year, which translates to 23.2% of the national average family income, hurting families, the economy and competitiveness, as well as job growth and small business.

Late on Friday, the Obama administration quietly released an explosive report that reveals health care premiums will go up for two-thirds of American small businesses as a result of Obamacare. This only confirms what many of us have known all along that far more small business employees will see premiums go up than see them go down under Obamacare.
ANOTHER BROKEN OBAMACARE PROMISE. Obama’s latest broken promise is especially unfair to America’s 16 million seniors on Medicare Advantage. These folks worked hard for their entire lives to enjoy the benefits they’ve earned through programs like Medicare Advantage. Now those benefits are on the chopping block because of Obamacare.

This morning I’m at the House Committee on Financial Services where the new Federal Reserve chairman Janet Yellen is making her Hill debut. Moving forward, I’m hopeful that Yellen carefully considers the impact of her actions on the American worker.
